Everyone has at least one good idea for a new invention or business and the difficult part is recognising its potential and taking the first steps to bring it to life

Ideas Place Launch

Thu 07 Feb 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Fletcher Jones

The Ideas Place was launched at 5.30pm on Thursday 7th February, at the new Warrnambool Motor Museum in the Fletcher Jones Factory. It was an exciting opportunity to hear about the legacy of Fletcher Jones from one of the founders of Quicksilver, Simon Buttonshaw. There was also a panel conversation with three of the region's latest entrepreneurial fashionistas, Alexis Steere (Albeco), Erin Grigg (Always) and Belinda Pitt (Cat Street).

'Simon Buttonshaw is one of the pioneers of Australian surf fashion culture.

He’s the guy who named Ripcurl and created their first logo. He helped Alan Green to start Quiksilver, and went on to spend decades with the company as their Global Designer. His memory of the textile and fashion industries stretches back to the 1970s, and has taken him all over the world in the intervening years.

At the Ideas Place Launch, Simon recounted some of his amazing experiences, including the time he spent with Sir Fletcher Jones in the lead-up to the surf-wear revolution.
